  • 3/4 cup white whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons cold butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup chopped apple
  • 1 cup confectioner's sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with a silicone mat.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flours, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and salt.
  3. Cut in cold butter until crumbly.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, egg, and vanilla; then add to dry ingredients along with chopped apple.
  5. Drop batter by 1/4 cupfuls onto the prepared sheet.
  6. Bake for 11-13 minutes until golden brown. Optionally broil for an additional caramelized finish.
