  • 10 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 3/4 cup + 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened dutch cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup + 1 tablespoon honey or agave syrup
  • 1 large egg (slightly whisked)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/2 teaspoon flaky Maldon sea salt (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together dark brown sugar, granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla until fluffy.
  3. Melt butter and dark chocolate together; slowly mix into the sugar mixture until combined.
  4. Fold in all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and salt until just blended; pour into prepared pan.
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  6. For the topping, heat granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, honey, whisked egg, and vanilla in a saucepan until dissolved; stir in chopped pecans and softened butter.
  7. Pour the pecan mixture over baked brownies and return to oven for another 15-20 minutes until set.
  8. Cool completely before cutting into squares.
