  • 3 cups water
  • 1 can (540 mL) tomato juice
  • 1 can (284 mL) condensed tomato soup
  • 2 mini cans (156 mL each) V8 original vegetable cocktail
  • 1 head green cabbage
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1 yellow onion, chopped fine
  • 1½ lbs ground beef
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp seasoning salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp paprika

Instructions

  1. Core the cabbage and freeze it overnight. Thaw in a colander for about 10 hours.
  2. Cook the rice according to package instructions but reduce cooking time by 5 minutes. Combine with cooked onions, ground beef, and spices.
  3. Prepare the sauce by mixing the tomato juice, condensed soup, and V8 cocktail.
  4. Assemble the rolls by placing filling in softened cabbage leaves and rolling tightly.
  5. Layer rolls seam-side down in a baking pan with sauce; cover and bake at 350°F for 3–4 hours.
