  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • 1 1/4 cups powdered sugar
  • 6 tablespoons granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Add egg and vanilla; mix until combined.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture until just mixed.
  5. Scoop tablespoon-sized dough portions onto prepared sheets and bake for about 7 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
  6. Cool cookies before frosting with cream cheese mixed with powdered sugar.
  7. Sprinkle granulated sugar on top and use a kitchen torch or broiler to caramelize it until crackly.
