  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 medium onion (thinly sliced)
  • 2 teaspoons fresh thyme (minced)
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 12 sweet rolls
  • 10 slices provolone cheese
  • 14 ounces sliced deli roast beef
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 & 1/2 tablespoons dried onion soup mix
  • 1 packet au jus gravy mix
  • 3 cups water
  • Fresh chopped parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt unsalted butter and add sliced onion. Cook until caramelized, about 12–15 minutes. Stir in thyme, salt, and pepper.
  2. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  3. Slice sweet rolls horizontally and place the bottoms in a baking dish. Layer half the provolone cheese, deli roast beef, caramelized onions, and remaining cheese on top. Place the tops back on.
  4. Combine melted butter with onion soup mix and brush over the rolls.
  5. Cover loosely with foil and bake for 25 minutes; remove foil and bake for an additional 5 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Prepare au jus according to package instructions while sliders bake.
  7. Serve warm with au jus on the side.
