Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound lean ground beef or ground turkey
  • 1 large yellow onion, diced
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups low-sodium beef or chicken broth
  • 1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 8 oz small pasta shells or elbow pasta
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. In a large sauté pan over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Remove meat and set aside, reserving about 2 tablespoons of grease.
  2. Lower heat to medium; add diced onion and sauté until soft (about 5 minutes). Add minced garlic during the last 30 seconds.
  3. Sprinkle in flour; stir for about 1 minute. Gradually add broth while stirring until it reaches a boil.
  4. Stir in tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, seasoned salt, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and pasta. Bring to a simmer, cover, and cook for 12-15 minutes until pasta is tender, stirring occasionally.
  5. Mix in heavy cream and cheese until melted and creamy. Return cooked meat to the pan; heat through before serving.
