  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 2 to 3 drops red food coloring (optional)
  • Crushed peppermint candies for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and confectioners' sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in peppermint extract.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, cornstarch, and salt. Gradually add to the creamed mixture until combined.
  3. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Shape chilled dough into 1-inch balls and place on ungreased baking sheets, spaced apart.
  5. Bake for 9-11 minutes until lightly browned on the bottoms. Cool on wire racks.
  6. For frosting, beat together softened butter, confectioners' sugar, milk, peppermint extract, and optional food coloring until smooth.
  7. Frost cooled cookies and top with crushed peppermint candies.
