  • 1 lb ribeye steak (trimmed and thinly sliced)
  • 1 sweet onion (large, diced)
  • 8 slices provolone cheese (mild)
  • 4 hoagie rolls (sliced 3/4 through)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 garlic clove (pressed)
  • Sea salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Mayonnaise to taste

Instructions

  1. Slice the hoagie rolls 3/4 of the way through and set aside.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the softened butter with the pressed garlic. Spread this garlic butter onto the cut sides of each hoagie roll.
  3. Toast the buns in a skillet over medium heat until golden brown; set aside.
  4. Sauté the diced onions in oil until softened and caramelized; transfer to a bowl.
  5. In the same skillet on high heat, cook the sliced ribeye until browned; season with salt and pepper and stir in the onions.
  6. Divide the steak mixture into portions, topping each with two slices of cheese to melt.
  7. Spread mayo on the toasted side of each roll, then fill with the cheesy steak mixture.
