  • 1 lb beef strips (sirloin or ribeye)
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 4 tablespoons vegetable oil (divided)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce (divided)
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: oyster sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare the marinade by whisking together 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, ginger, garlic, sesame oil, and optional oyster sauce in a bowl. Add beef strips and let marinate for 10–15 minutes.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil and sauté the sliced onions until soft and caramelized. Season with salt and pepper, then set aside.
  3. Increase heat to high and add another 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil to the skillet. Stir-fry the marinated beef strips for about 2–3 minutes until browned.
  4. In a small bowl, combine remaining soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch. Pour over the beef in the skillet and simmer until thickened.
  5. Return sautéed onions to the skillet, mix well, and serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
