Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon warm water (105-115°F)
  • 6 tablespoons granulated sugar (divided)
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm whole milk (105-115°F)
  • 7 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted, divided)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 large egg (room temperature)
  • 3 ½ cups bread flour
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by combining warm water with 1 tablespoon of sugar and yeast in a mixing bowl. Let it sit until frothy (5-10 minutes).
  2. In another bowl, mix warmed milk, melted butter, remaining sugar, salt, and egg. Add to the yeast mixture.
  3. Gradually incorporate flour until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (1-2 hours).
  5. Punch down the risen dough and divide into 12 portions; shape each into a ball on a lined baking sheet.
  6. Allow shaped rolls to rise again for an hour until puffy.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for about 15 minutes or until golden brown. Brush with melted butter once out of the oven.
