Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon warm water
  • 6 tablespoons granulated sugar (divided)
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm whole milk
  • 7 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted, divided)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 large egg (room temperature)
  • 3 ½ cups bread flour
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water and 1 tablespoon sugar. Sprinkle yeast on top; let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together warm milk, melted butter (reserve 2 tablespoons), remaining sugar, salt, and egg until well combined.
  3. Add the frothy yeast mixture to the milk mixture; stir gently.
  4. Gradually add bread flour until a soft dough forms.
  5. Knead dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1-2 hours).
  6. Punch down the dough and divide into small pieces; shape each into a ball and place on a greased baking sheet.
  7. Cover rolls and let them rise again for about 30-45 minutes until puffy.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown; brush with reserved melted butter after baking.
  9. In a small bowl, mix softened butter, confectioners' sugar, honey, and cinnamon until well blended.
