  • 1 large whole egg (beaten)
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 16 ounces sharp cheddar cheese (grated)
  • Salt to taste
  • Seasoned salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Garlic powder to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C) and prepare a 9X13 inch baking dish with nonstick spray.
  2. Cook macaroni according to package instructions in salted water until al dente; drain and set aside.
  3. In a bowl, beat the egg and set aside.
  4. In a large pot over medium-low heat, melt butter. Whisk in flour for about two minutes until golden brown.
  5. Gradually add milk and mustard while whisking; bring to a boil then simmer until thickened.
  6. Temper the egg mixture by whisking in some hot sauce before mixing it back with the pot mixture.
  7. Stir in cheese until melted; season to taste.
  8. Combine pasta with the sauce and pour into the prepared baking dish. Top with additional cheese if desired.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden and bubbly.
