  • 3 lbs. country style beef or turkey ribs
  • 1 large yellow onion
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons cumin
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 ½ cups barbecue sauce (divided)
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Lightly coat the slow cooker with cooking spray. Cut the onion into thick wedges and place at the bottom. Lay the ribs on top.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine chili powder, black pepper, salt, cumin, oregano, and garlic powder; sprinkle over the ribs.
  3. Whisk liquid smoke into 1 cup of barbecue sauce and pour over the ribs.
  4. Cover and cook on LOW for 7-8 hours or HIGH for 4-5 hours until tender.
  5. Preheat broiler; transfer ribs to a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil.
  6. Baste with remaining barbecue sauce and broil for about 5 minutes until caramelized.
